Stuck in Phoenix

Mount Shasta
It is Thursday and we are stuck in Phoenix. Our motorhome had a brake problem and overheated and so we thought we should check it out. Of course the small part we need is not readily availble so here we are waiting in Phoenix. Oh well good thing we are not on any time frame. We could be stuck in worse places.

California travels

Thursday, April 20 we continued down California to Santa Barbara. Along the way we took a side trip to Solvang. It is a small village in the foothills of the California coast. The village is very cute as it is all Scandinavian. There are many little shops with Danish and Norwegian wares. We found it all particularly interesting as both Ed and I have Norwegian roots. We had lunch there and spent quite a while looking around. Finally got to Everett’s and spent the weekend with him. We took a nice long walk on the beach and around the university campus. Went out for dinner a couple of times with Everett and Katy and then with Sean (Ed’s nephew) and his girlfriend. Nice to visit with family we rarely see.                               Monday, April 25 – Today we travelled across Los Angeles and through Palm Springs to Indio. It is soooo windy here. The highways are lined with windmills for electricity and I can see why. It is also quite hot and dry.  The motorhome is rocking and rolling and wind is whistling through. It is nice and cozy inside though (with air conditioning going) so we will be just fine. Looking forward to moving on tomorrow though and hope the wind will settle down

California Coastline

We made it to the coastline today. Beautiful country with rolling green hills and red soil and of course now the ocean. Had a very pleasant drive today with a mixed bag of weather. Some sun, some rain showers, some cloud. But nice now and hopefully when we drive down the coastline tomorrow it will be nice and we can go down to some of the beaches. We went down Hwy 1 on the way to Big Sur but they had a landslide and closed the road so we had to turn around and go back to Hwy 101. Tomorrow we should get back to Hwy 1 and follow it down to Santa Barbara and visit Ed's brother Everett for Easter weekend.

First Few Days

We are on our way. We left on Saturday night after dinner with all our kids. What a nice send off they gave us. Good thing we did as we still had to wait at the border over 1/2 hour. I can imagine how long it would have taken if we had waited until Sunday morning. Only went 1 hour to Tualip Casino and stayed for free in their parking lot. The next morning we did some grocery shopping and only went a little way down I5 and found the toilet needed a part. By the time we got to Salem it was 5:00 and Camping World (RV parts store) was closing. They ordered in our part but it wouldn't be ready until the next day. They told us to park in their large parking lot behind the store and stay overnight. Good idea and again for free. Next morning we got our toilet fixed and were on the road. We went as far as Canyonville and were looking for a campground and what did we find on the side of the road but Seven Feathers Casino. We went in there and parked again for free. Then we went into the casino and they gave us $5 each free gambling money. We played the slots and won $20. So  we went and had dinner for the $20. Good Deal. Today we took our time travelling South and tonight we are in Orland Ca. As soon as we hit California border we hit warm weather. I think tomorrow we can wear shorts. We are goint through San Francisco tomorrow. I'll blog again when I can.
