Florida Keys

Well I  know now why there is key lime pie. The water around the keys is so shallow here that the water looks lime green (just like limes). Of course we went out for a seafood dinner and also ordered key lime pie. (Yumm). The sand on the beaches are actually quite coarse here as we are staying at John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park. There are lots of mangrove trees and swamps and coral reefs. It is quite beautiful. Lots of fish but we are spoiled as Hawaii still has the most beautiful snorkeling that we have found. There is a long road with 47 bridges over a 100 mile stretch connecting all the keys (islands). It look really pretty as they have painted all the cement medians in a blue/green color. Also at some places you can see water on both sides of the road. I don't know when the hurricane seasons begins but there are posters everywhere advising people how to prepare and where to go in such an event. Also noted the telephone poles are made of cement and are at least 3 times thicker than ours so that the hurricanes hopefully will not topple them. Leavng now to start heading north.
